I don't honestly know what to call these potatoes. Au Gratin? Scalloped? I really don't know the difference. All I know is that they are delicious. Give them a try.
5 baker size potatoes, sliced in 1/4" slices
1 large onion, sliced
1/2 cup flour
1 cube butter
4 cups milk
1 t salt
1/2 t pepper
Heat oven to 375. Liberally grease large casserole dish or 9x13 pan.
Layer potatoes and onions as desired. I usually do three layers.
Melt butter in saucepan. Stir in flour and cook until bubbly, whisking to remove all the lumps. Pour in milk and stir until boiling and thick.
Pour sauce over potatoes/onions.
Bake uncovered for 1 hour.
Notes:
1. I use a mandolin slicer. This ensures that your potatoes will cook evenly.
2. I serve this with ham or pork chops.
3. Try it with cheese!
